What if I am a slow walker or worried about altitude sickness?

You do not need to worry about high altitude or walking speed during this tour.

Here is how we ensure a smooth experience:

• Gradual Descent to Lower Elevation: The drive quickly takes you down from Cusco (3,400 meters) to Hidroeléctrica (1,800 meters) and Aguas Calientes (2,040 meters), which makes breathing much easier.
• Flat Walking Path: The 10 km walk from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes follows the railway line along a flat, level trail without steep uphill climbs.
• Flexible Walking Pace: You can walk at your own comfortable rhythm, taking as many short rest stops as you need to take photos and enjoy the scenery.
• Emergency Oxygen and First Aid: Tour vehicles and guides carry first aid supplies to assist you whenever necessary.

Can I change my departure date after booking?

Once Machu Picchu entrance tickets are purchased, government regulations strictly prohibit any date changes, name edits, or transfers. All permits and tickets are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable.

Do I need my physical original passport on the tour?

Yes, you must carry the exact physical original passport used when making your booking. Student card holders must also present their physical valid student ID card to enter sites with a student discount.

Where do I leave my main luggage during the tour?

You can leave your large main luggage in secure storage at your Cusco hotel or directly at our Cusco office free of charge during the trip. For the overnight stay in Aguas Calientes, you only need to carry a lightweight daypack containing your clothes and daily essentials.

What circuit will I visit at Machu Picchu?

Your tour includes Circuit 2, which covers the primary sectors of Machu Picchu, including the upper and lower terraces for classic photos, the Sun Temple, and the main sacred plazas.

How long is the walk from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes, and can I take a train instead?

The walk covers approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) along a flat path parallel to the railway line.

• Walking Time: It takes most travelers between 2.5 and 3 hours at a steady, relaxed pace.
• Train Alternative: If you prefer not to walk, you can purchase a PeruRail shuttle train ticket at Hidroeléctrica station directly to Aguas Calientes for an additional cost (subject to train departure schedules).

What is the weather like along the road route, and how should I pack?

This trip crosses multiple microclimates, starting in the high cold mountains and ending in the warm cloud forest.

Morning departures over Abra Málaga Pass are cold, requiring a warm jacket or fleece for the drive. Descending toward Santa Teresa and Aguas Calientes brings warmer, humid weather where lightweight long-sleeve shirts and quick-dry trousers work best. Once at the Machu Picchu Citadel, expect warm conditions where heavy coats are unnecessary, simply carry a rain poncho for sudden showers, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

Is tipping expected, and how much should I tip?

Tipping is not mandatory in Peru, but it is a customary way to show appreciation for excellent service from your guides and drivers.

Here are general guidelines to help you plan:

• Tour Guides: A tip of 10 to 15 USD per day per group is customary for your guide if you were pleased with their service.
• Drivers: A tip of 5 to 10 USD per day per group is appreciated for your driver handling the mountain road transfers.
• Restaurants: Leaving an additional 5% to 10% in cash for servers at local restaurants is standard practice.
