Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu Tour 2 Days
Your journey begins at 7:30 AM when your guide meets you at your hotel in Cusco. We embark on a scenic drive into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, stopping first at the Taray Viewpoint for sweeping views of the Urubamba River valley. Proceed to the Pisac Archaeological Site to explore its vast agricultural terraces and ancient sector, followed by a brief visit to the famous Pisac market.
After enjoying lunch in Urubamba, continue to Moray to admire the circular terraces that the Incas designed as an agricultural testing center. Next, descend to the pre-Inca Salt Mines of Maras to view thousands of active salt ponds where local families harvest salt today.
Finally, conclude the day at the living Inca town of Ollantaytambo, exploring its grand sun temple before boarding the 7:00 PM train to Aguas Calientes.
Today focuses entirely on exploring Machu Picchu. Consequently, following an early breakfast at your hotel, you will board the Consettur shuttle bus up to the entrance of Machu Picchu Citadel (2,430 meters / 7,972 feet). Arriving early allows you to experience the ancient site during the quiet morning hours.
Next, your expert guide leads a detailed 2-hour tour of the citadel (Circuit 2 or Circuit 3 depending on availability). During this tour, you will discover key highlights including the Temple of the Sun, the Room of the Three Windows, the Intihuatana Solar Clock, and the Main Sacred Plaza. In addition, adventurous travelers with advance reservations can undertake the optional Huayna Picchu Mountain hike right after the guided portion.
Once the citadel exploration concludes, you will ride the shuttle bus back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Afterwards, you will board the scenic train back to Ollantaytambo, where our private driver transfers you directly to your hotel in Cusco.
