Itinerary

Day 1: Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes

At 7:30 am, your private guide will meet you at your hotel to begin the journey to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will start by driving to Pisac, taking the scenic route and stopping at the Mirador of Taray to witness the stunning aerial view of the Urubamba Valley and the surrounding mountains. Our next destination is the Pisac Archeological site, which has the largest Inca cemetery, housing over 2,000 tombs. We will also explore the hand-carved farming terraces on the side of the mountain, the Inca Tunnel, and the religious site of this significant Inca ruin. You will have approximately 2 hours to explore the Inca city before we head to the colorful Pisac Market, the largest in the region, to see the different handicrafts.

After the market visit, we will drive to Urubamba for lunch. Following lunch, we will visit Moray, an experimental farming site designed like an amphitheater with each level naturally providing a different temperature for growing different types of crops. The terraces were carved even before the Incas came to power, and they later used them to research optimal growing conditions for their crops.

We will then visit Maras, a colonial town, and walk downhill to the pre-Inca Salt Mines consisting of over three thousand salt ponds that have been in use for over three thousand years. Next, we will head to Ollantaytambo, a traditional Inca village, where we will explore its ruins with our guide and have dinner or takeout before taking the train.

At 7 pm, we will board the train to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a hotel.

  • 2* Accommodation: Inti Punku Tambo or Wiracocha Inn
