How do I book the Rainbow Mountain Tour?

To reserve your spot, please fill out our online booking form with full passport details (full name, passport number, gender, date of birth, and nationality) for each hiker. Additionally, we require a deposit of $53 USD per person via VISA or PayPal to secure your booking and permits.

How do I pay the remaining balance?

You can pay your remaining balance in cash (US dollars or Peruvian soles) at our Cusco office during your pre-trek briefing to avoid processing fees. Alternatively, you can pay online via VISA or PayPal, which incurs an added 5.5% service fee.

Do I need my original physical passport?

Yes. Bring the original physical passport used at the time of booking. However, if you renew your passport before the trek, you must notify us to update your permit details ($25 USD fee) or bring both your old and new physical passports on the trip.

Where and when does the pre-trek briefing take place?

Your pre-trek orientation takes place at 6:00 PM the evening prior to departure at our Cusco office, located at Calle Garcilaso 210, Office 212.

Can I store my luggage at your office?

Absolutely! During your Rainbow Mountain tour, you can store your main luggage safely at our Cusco office or your hotel free of charge.

How do I handle airport transfers in Cusco?

In fact, we offer complimentary airport-to-hotel pickup in Cusco. Therefore, please provide your flight details at least 14 days before arrival. Our team member will meet you outside the arrival terminal holding an orange Apple Travel Peru sign.

What is the weather like on Rainbow Mountain?

Mountain weather in the High Andes is unpredictable and variable. For example, mornings can be crisp and clear, but temperatures at the summit often drop close to freezing with cold mountain winds, rain, or snow. Therefore, we recommend dressing in warm, breathable layers and carrying quality rain gear in your daypack.

How severe is altitude sickness, and how can I prevent it?

High altitude affects travelers differently, often causing mild headaches, shortness of breath, fatigue, or nausea above 2,500 meters. To prevent altitude sickness, we strongly advise spending at least 2 to 3 days acclimatizing in Cusco before attempting this hike. Additionally, stay well-hydrated, avoid heavy meals or alcohol prior to the trek, and consider drinking traditional coca tea. Furthermore, our guides carry emergency medical oxygen tanks on every departure.

How difficult is the Rainbow Mountain hike?

We rate this trek as challenging due to the extreme altitude of 5,020 meters (16,466 feet), even though the walking distance is short (5 km round-trip). Consequently, you should maintain a reasonable level of physical fitness and take time to acclimatize properly in Cusco before hiking.

What happens if I am unable to finish the hike?

If you feel tired during the ascent, you can rent a horse directly from local community members at the trail. However, if you experience severe illness or altitude complications, our guide will immediately assist you back to our private vehicle for safety. Additionally, our guides carry emergency oxygen at all times. Note that hikers assume full responsibility for any emergency medical transport, so valid travel insurance is required.

How does tipping work for the crew?

Tipping is completely optional but greatly appreciated by our guides and drivers. Overall, if you enjoy the service, tipping offers a great way to express your appreciation for the team’s hard work throughout the long day.
